A subject of Chinese painting. It depicts the scene on Qingming Festival (one of the 24 solar terms; the 15th day after the vernal equinox). It began as a scroll depicting the Qingming Festival in the capital Benjing by Zhang Zeduan, a court painter at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty. In later years, copies of Zhang Zeduan's scroll were made, as well as scrolls depicting scenes in other cities. It is interesting as a map of the city and its customs, and is also valuable as a source of social and economic history. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
