Blue and white salt (English: qing bai yán)

Japanese: 青白塩 - せいはくえん（英語表記）qīng bái yán

Salt extracted from inland lakes in the dry inland areas of the Ordos River in China. There are many inland salt lakes, such as Wuchi and Baiji, near Wuyuan, Yanzhou, on the border between Shaanxi and Ningxia, which produce high-quality salt called blue salt or white salt due to its color. From the Tang to the early Song dynasties, the Tangut people living in this area used this salt as their main trade item with China. In the second half of the 10th century, the Song dynasty, which unified China, banned the import of blue and white salt due to the need to implement a nationwide salt monopoly, but this measure caused the Tangut people to unite and become hostile towards the Song dynasty.

中国，黄河オルドスの内陸乾燥地の湖でとれる塩。陝西と寧夏の境域，塩州五原付近には，烏池（うち），白池など多数の内陸塩湖があり，その色合いから青塩，白塩と呼ぶ良質の塩を産した。唐から宋初にかけて，この一帯に住むタングート(党項)族はこれを中国向けの主要な貿易品としてきた。10世紀後半，中国を統一した宋は，全国的な塩の専売実施の必要から，青白塩の流入を禁止したが，この措置はタングート族が団結して宋に敵対する原因となった。
