Japanese: 須賀川[市] - すかがわ

A city in central Fukushima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Sukagawa, the city's center, is located on a plateau on the south bank of the Shakado River, and developed as a post town and market town on the Oshu Kaido highway. The Tohoku Main Line, the Suigun Line, and the Tohoku Expressway pass through the city, and Fukushima Airport opened in May 1993 in the southeastern part of the city. Electrical, general, and precision equipment industries are thriving, and the construction of an industrial complex near the airport is also underway. Rice and vegetable cultivation is thriving in the surrounding area, along the Asaka Canal. There is a peony garden with 5,000 peony plants of 290 varieties (a scenic spot), and the ruins of Shonindan Temple (a historic site). In April 2005, Naganuma Town and Iwase Village in Iwase County were incorporated. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 279.43 ^km2 . 79,267 people (2010).

福島県中部の市。1954年市制。中心の須賀川は釈迦堂川南岸の台地上にあり，奥州街道の宿場町，市場町として発達。東北本線，水郡線，東北自動車道が通じ，市域の南東部に，1993年５月福島空港が開港した。電気・一般・精密機器などの工業が盛んで，臨空型の工業団地の建設も推進している。周辺では安積(あさか)疎水による米作，野菜栽培が盛ん。290種，5000株の牡丹(ぼたん)園（名勝），上人壇廃寺跡（史跡）がある。2005年４月岩瀬郡長沼町，岩瀬村を編入。東日本大震災で，市内において被害が発生。279.43km²。７万9267人（2010）。
