A former town in Inashiki County, southern Ibaraki Prefecture. It was incorporated as a town on June 1, 1996 from Shintone Village. It is located in a grain-producing area on the north bank of the midstream Tone River, with the river flowing east through the center of the town. Mechanized rice and fig cultivation are thriving. Bordering the east of Ryugasaki City, industrialization has progressed, and the population has increased by 14.7% in the five years since 1990. The Shorensha Shakado Hall in Kaminomoto houses a nirvana statue of Shaka Nyorai, known as the "Reclining Buddha." In March 2005, it merged with Edosaki Town, Higashi Town, and Sakuragawa Village in Inashiki County to form Inashiki City. 29.74 km2 . 10,149 people (2003). 茨城県南部,稲敷郡の旧町。1996年6月1日,新利根村から町制。利根川中流部北岸の穀倉地帯に位置し,町の中央を新利根川が東流する。機械化の進んだ米作とイチジク栽培が盛んである。龍ヶ崎市の東に接して工業化が進み,1990年からの5年間で人口が14.7%増加している。上根本の称蓮社釈迦堂には〈寝釈迦さま〉として知られる釈迦如来の涅槃(ねはん)像がある。2005年3月稲敷郡江戸崎町,東町,桜川村と合併し市制,稲敷市となる。29.74km2。1万149人(2003)。
