Ganglion - nerve ganglion

Japanese: 神経節 - しんけいせつ
Ganglion - nerve ganglion
A nodular swelling formed by the collection of nerve cells and nerve fibers along the peripheral nerves. A collection of nerve cells in the central nervous system is called a nucleus and is distinguished from other collections. There are two main types of ganglia: sensory ganglia and autonomic ganglia. The former includes the spinal ganglia (spinal nerves) and the corresponding ganglia of the cranial nerves (semilunar ganglia, spiral ganglia, etc.), while the latter includes the ganglia of the sympathetic trunk and other ganglia of the autonomic nervous system. The cephalic ganglion of invertebrates is also called the brain.
