Female Crime

Japanese: 女性犯罪 - じょせいはんざい

Refers to crimes committed by women. There are large quantitative and qualitative differences between men and women in the way crimes occur. In particular, statistically speaking, crimes committed by women are quantitatively much lower than crimes committed by men, a phenomenon that can be seen across time and regions. In Japan in 1996, the proportion of women among those arrested for criminal offenses (excluding traffic offenses) was 15.4%, and the United States (19.1%) and West Germany (19.5%), where women's social advancement is relatively advanced, show roughly similar figures (1980).

女性によって行われる犯罪をいう。男性と女性では，犯罪の生起のしかたにおいて，量的にも質的にも大きな差が認められる。とくに，統計上，女性犯罪は男性犯罪に比し，量的に非常に少ないことは，時代･地域を超えてみられる現象である。日本の1996年の刑法犯検挙人員(交通事犯を除く)中の女性比は15.4％であり，女性の社会的進出の比較的進んだアメリカ(19.1％)，西ドイツ(19.5％)もほぼ同様の数字を示している(1980)。
