Embroidered Buddha

Japanese:
Embroidered Buddha
Embroidery depicting Buddhist statues or Buddhist themes. Embroidery requires time and effort to produce, but compared to weaving or dyeing, it can be done with simple tools (equipment), making it one of the oldest textile decoration techniques. Records of embroidered Buddhas are also ancient, with articles appearing in various books, including the Vow to Create an Embroidered Joroku Buddha in 605 (Nihon Shoki), but all of these are influenced by China. Although not strictly speaking an embroidered Buddha, the oldest surviving example with a clear date of production is the Tenjukokuni Tsuicho (Chugu-ji Temple) from the Asuka period.
