A town in Sanbu District, northern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau, it produces rice, watermelons, carrots, and potatoes, and fruit cultivation is also thriving. It is home to Kannon-kyo-ji Temple, a famous Tendai sect temple built in the 8th century, and the Nio at the Niomon Gate is famous as Shibayama Nioson. The Shibayama Kofun Group (historic site) straddles Yokoshiba-cho (now Yokoshibahikari-cho).
