Shibayama [town] - Shibayama

Japanese: 芝山[町] - しばやま

A town in Sanbu District, northern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau, it produces rice, watermelons, carrots, and potatoes, and fruit cultivation is also thriving. It is home to Kannon-kyo-ji Temple, a famous Tendai sect temple built in the 8th century, and the Nio at the Niomon Gate is famous as Shibayama Nioson. The Shibayama Kofun Group (historic site) straddles Yokoshiba-cho (now Yokoshibahikari-cho). The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. ^{43.24 km2} . 7,920 people (2010).

千葉県北部，山武郡の町。下総(しもうさ)台地にあり，米，スイカ，ニンジン，ジャガイモを産し，果樹栽培も盛ん。８世紀建立という天台宗の名寺観音教寺があり仁王門の仁王は芝山仁王尊として有名。横芝町（現・横芝光町）にまたがって芝山古墳群（史跡）がある。東日本大震災で，町内において被害が発生。43.24km²。7920人（2010）。
