A former town in Kikuchi County in northern Kumamoto Prefecture. It is located on a plateau in the Koshi River basin, a tributary of the Kikuchi River, and is a thriving area for rice, tobacco, greenhouse horticulture, and dairy farming. There is an agricultural and industrial complex. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Kikuchi City along with Shichijo Town and Asahi Village in Kikuchi County. 26.97 km2 .
