In Chinese characters, it is called Alkin Mountains. It is a mountain range that divides the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province in China. It is connected to the Kunlun Mountains in the west and the Qilian Mountains in the east at Dangjin Pass, where the road connecting Xining and Dunhuang passes, and is 750 km long. It is also called the Altin Mountains. It consists of three mountain ranges, Western, Central, and Eastern, and the highest peak in the western part is Slamtarg Mountain at 6,295m, the highest peak in the central part is an unnamed peak at 6,065m, and the highest peak in the eastern part is Altun Mountain at 5,798m, the same as the name of the range. In 1989, a friendly climbing team from Lanzhou City, China and Akita City, Japan, succeeded in reaching the summit of Altun Mountain. "Altun Mountain" means "mountain with white birch" in Mongolian.

漢字では阿爾金山脈。中国，新疆ウイグル自治区と青海省をわかつ山脈。西は崑崙(こんろん)山脈，東は西寧〜敦煌(とんこう)を結ぶ道路が通じる当金峠で祁連(きれん)山脈につらなり，全長750km。アルティン山脈とも。西部，中部，東部の三つの山系からなり，西部の最高峰は6295mのスラムターグ山，中部の最高峰は6065mの無名峰，東部の最高峰は5798mで山脈名と同じアルトゥン山。1989年中国蘭州市と日本の秋田市の友好登山隊がアルトゥン山の登頂に成功した。〈アルトゥン山〉とは，モンゴル語で〈白樺のある山〉の意。
