A slang term for a particular dry, coarse condition of the skin. Generally, it refers to the changes that correspond to the Western term fish skin and the Japanese name ichthyosis, but some interpret it literally as "shark skin" and refer to it as lichen pilaris, and some even expand it to include goose skin. Ichthyosis is a disease characterized by dry, coarse, and fish-scale-like changes to the skin, and there are many types, but to date there has been no international consensus on its classification.
