Catalunya (English spelling)

Japanese: カタルニャ（英語表記）Cataluña

A region in northeastern Spain. It consists of four provinces: Gerona, Barcelona, Lleida, and Tarragona. The capital city is Barcelona. The official languages are Catalan (Catalan), spoken by 70% of the inhabitants, and Castilian (commonly known as Spanish). From the north to the center, the eastern end of the Pyrenees and the mountain ranges that follow it are located, and the terrain is very undulating with few plains. The coastal region has a warm Mediterranean climate, but the inland region has large differences between hot and cold, and the Pyrenees region is cool and rainy.

スペイン北東部の地方。ヘロナ，バルセロナ，レリダ，タラゴナの4県からなる。中心都市はバルセロナ。公用語として，住民の7割が話すカタルニャ語(カタロニア語)とカスティリャ語(一般にスペイン語と呼ばれる)が併用されている。北部から中央部へかけては，ピレネー山脈東端とそれに続く山脈が連なり，地形は起伏に富み，平野は少ない。気候は海岸地帯が地中海性気候で温暖であるが，内陸部は寒暑の差が激しく，さらにピレネー山脈一帯は冷涼多雨である。
