Arashi Kanjuro - Arashi Kanjuro

A film actor. His real name was Takahashi Teruichi. He was born in Kyoto. He was a female Kabuki actor called Arashi Wakadayu, but in 1927 (Showa 2), he joined Makino Productions and made his debut in "Kurama Tengu Ibun Kakubeijishi" (1927) under the stage name Arashi Chozaburo. His bitter face and powerful fighting skills made him an instant star. He later changed his name to Arashi Kanjuro and appeared in many period films before and after the war, with hit roles in the "Kurama Tengu" and "Muttsuri Uemon" series. In "Meiji Tenno to Nihonshu Daisenso" (1957), he became the first film actor to play the role of the emperor, which caused a big stir.

映画俳優。本名高橋照市。京都生まれ。歌舞伎(かぶき)の女方で嵐和歌太夫(たゆう)といったが、1927年（昭和2）マキノプロへ入社、嵐長三郎の芸名で『鞍馬天狗(くらまてんぐ)異聞・角兵衛獅子(じし)』（1927）に初出演。にがみばしった顔だちと迫力ある立回りのうまさで一躍人気スターとなる。のち嵐寛寿郎と改名、戦前・戦後を通じて数多くの時代劇映画で活躍、「鞍馬天狗」「むっつり右門」の各シリーズを当り役とした。『明治天皇と日露大戦争』（1957）では、映画俳優初の天皇役を演じて大きな話題をよんだ。
