Taiwanese author. Name: Jian Tian. Pen name: Rao Hsi. After graduating from Taipei Normal School, he taught at a public school while writing old poems and novels. In 1940, he quit teaching due to racism and made a living as a newspaper reporter. His novel "Orphan of Asia," written in Japanese during World War II, is his representative work that depicts the suffering of Taiwanese intellectuals under colonial rule, and was finally published after Taiwan was liberated in 1946. He continued to work as a writer, full of rebellious spirit, publishing works such as "Taiwan Before Dawn" and "Fig," which depict the realities of Taiwan under the Kuomintang government and the lives of the common people during the colonial period. In 1964, he also used his own money to launch the magazine "Taiwan Literature," and worked to foster local Taiwanese literature. He has published "Selected Works of Wu Douliu" (2 volumes). "Orphan of Asia" and several other books have been published in Japan.

台湾の作家。名，建田。号，饒畊。台北師範学校卒業後，公学校で教鞭をとるかたわら，旧詩，小説を書いたが，1940年民族差別に怒り教員をやめ，新聞記者などをして生計を立てた。第2次世界大戦下に日本語で書いた小説『アジアの孤児』は，植民地支配下の台湾知識人の苦悩を描いた代表作で，1946年台湾光復後にようやく発表された。その後も『夜明け前の台湾』『無花果』など，国民党政権下の台湾の実態や，植民地時代の民衆の生活を描いた作品を発表，反骨精神に満ちた作家活動を展開した。また 1964年私財を投じて雑誌『台湾文芸』を創刊，台湾郷土文学の育成に努めた。『呉濁流選集』（2巻）がある。日本でも『アジアの孤児』ほか数冊が出版されている。
