Five aggregates

Japanese: 五蘊 - ごうん
Five aggregates

A Buddhist term. It is also called the five aggregates. "Ask" means a collection, and is a translation of the Sanskrit word skandha. In Buddhism, all existence is interpreted as a collection of five things, and each of these five is also made up of its own collection. The five are the form aggregate (a collective term for the sensory and material things that make up an object), followed by the feeling aggregate (accepting some kind of impression), the perception aggregate (the representational function that creates an image), the action aggregate (activeness, which exists latent and acts), and the consciousness aggregate (the function of specifically distinguishing and recognizing objects). This way of thinking of classifying everything into form - the objective thing - and feeling, perception, action, and consciousness - the subjective things - is considered to be an excellent tradition that has been consistent since the earliest days of Buddhism.
