An American monthly magazine founded in 1924 by H.L. Mencken and G.J. Nathan. Nathan quit editing within the first year, and the magazine continued to be heavily influenced by Mencken until 1934. It aimed to "present a panoramic view of America in all its splendor," and featured civilizational critiques, short stories, poetry, plays, and art reviews. Contributors included Dreiser, O'Neill, S. Anderson, JB Cabell, J. Hergesheimer, Sandburg, S. Lewis, and EL Masters. The "Americana" column, consisting of excerpts from newspapers, became famous for satirizing the stupidity of the masses.
