International Chamber of Commerce

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) was established in Paris in 1920, and Japan rejoined after World War II. It has member organizations and companies through its domestic committee (members include the Japan Chamber of Commerce, the Japan Business Federation, large corporations, etc.).

The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce, the predecessor of today's Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was established in 1878 (Meiji 11), and in the same year, chambers of commerce were also established in Osaka and Kobe.

…商工会議所の性格はヨーロッパ大陸とイギリスならびにアメリカでは異なり，前者は公的色彩が強く行政事務の一部を担当しており，公法人である場合も少なくないが，後者では純然たる任意の民間団体である。国際組織として国際商業会議所International Chamber of Commerce(ICC)があり(1920年パリで成立)，日本も第2次大戦後再加入，国内委員会(会員は日商，経団連，大企業等)を通じて会員諸団体･企業が加入している。
