Public taxes and fees

A general term for taxes and other charges levied by national and local governments for public purposes. Public taxes are taxes such as national and local taxes, while public charges are non-tax charges collected by various public organizations. Public charges are often collected by force, just like taxes, and there are many different types. For example, there are surcharges, late fees, fines and penalties, allocated donations, various charges, public association dues, neighborhood association fees, PTA dues, etc.

国および地方公共団体が公共的目的のために課する租税およびその他の負担の総称。公租とは国税や地方税などの租税であり、公課とは租税以外のもので各種公共団体により徴収されるものをいう。公課は、事実上租税と同じように、多くの場合強制力をもって徴収され、その種類もきわめて多い。たとえば、加算金、延滞金、罰金および科料、割当て寄付金、各種負担金、公共組合の組合費、町内会費、PTA会費などがある。
