A fur-like product made from synthetic fibers. Synthetic furs often have a velvety structure like that of a carpet. A long tuft of fur is woven using slightly thicker fibers, and the cut tufts are neatly folded under. Alternatively, synthetic staple fibers can be attached to a base fabric by heating or using an adhesive, and then sheared. All of the above methods have been tried with fibers such as nylon, polyester, polyacrylic, and polyvinyl chloride. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
