A scholar from the Southern Song Dynasty in China. His pen name was Zhiqing and his pen name was Bensai. He was from Fujian Province and studied under Zhu Xi for over 40 years. Zhu Xi had the highest hopes for him and chose him as his son-in-law. He was entrusted by his teacher with continuing the funeral and ceremonial sections of the Interpretation of the Classic of Rites, and he also wrote a biography of his teacher, Zhu Xi's Behavior, which vividly portrayed Zhu Xi's humanity, thoughts, and path of practice. As a direct disciple of Zhu Xi, he made a great contribution to passing on Zhu Xi's philosophy to future generations. [Miura Kunio]

中国，南宋時代の学者。字は直卿，号は勉斎。福建省の人。朱熹（しゆき）に40余年にわたって師事した高弟。朱熹から最も期待をかけられ，その女婿に選ばれている。師から託され《儀礼（ぎらい）経伝通解》の葬･祭の部分を続修したのをはじめ，師の伝記《朱子行状（ぎようじよう）》を著し，朱熹の人間性と思想と実践の歩みを生き生きと描いた。朱熹直伝の門人として，朱子学を後世に伝えた功績は大きい。【三浦国雄】
