Quezon City (English spelling)

Japanese: ケソン･シティ（英語表記）Quezon City

A satellite city located in the low hills between Manila and the Marikina Valley to the northeast of the city, Philippines. Population 1,989,000 (1995). Established in 1939 by the separation and integration of parts of four towns in Rizal Province adjacent to Manila (Caloocan, Marikina, Pasig, and San Juan del Monte), it was named after the then-president ML Quezon. In 1948, it was designated the official capital of the Republic of the Philippines, and a vast amount of land was secured around the Quezon Monument in the center of the city, with plans to relocate government offices from Manila.

フィリピン，マニラ市とその北東マリキナ谷との間の低い丘陵地帯に位置する衛星都市。人口198万9000(1995)。1939年にマニラに隣接するリサール州の4町(カロオカン，マリキナ，パシッグ，サン･フアン･デル･モンテ)の一部が分離･統合されて誕生(当時の人口は4万人弱)，当時の大統領M.L.ケソンにちなんで命名された。48年にフィリピン共和国の公式首都に定められ，市中央部に立つケソン記念塔周辺に広大な用地を確保，マニラからの官公庁移転が計画された。
