This refers to excess sludge discharged as a result of sewage treatment. As the penetration rate of sewerage systems has increased, the amount of sewage sludge produced has also increased sharply. Sewage sludge is dehydrated after adding an appropriate coagulant and becomes dehydrated sludge with a moisture content of about 70%. Dehydrated sludge is disposed of by land landfilling, sea landfilling, dumping into the sea, or by effective use. Due to the limited space available for land and sea landfill, sludge needs to be reduced to 1/5 to 1/7 of its original volume by incineration, but this requires a large financial burden for incineration equipment and fuel costs.
