Gekizaru - Gekizaru

Japanese:
Gekizaru - Gekizaru

The title of a Nagauta song. It is a type of Kabuki dance. The original title was "Gekibushi Monkey." It was first performed in 1824 (Bunsei 7). The lyrics are unknown, and the piece was composed by Kineya Saburosuke IV (Rokuzaemon 10). It is said to be a revival of the "Gekibushi" that was popular in the mid-17th century. There are some joruri-like melodic movements in the opening part of the song, but it is questionable to what extent Gekibushi was revived. The lyrics say that a monkey trainer passing by a mansion is called into the garden to perform in front of the master. It starts with the drums beating at the intersections, which represents the playhouse scene, and includes the "Yotsutake no Aikata" and "Miya Kagura no Aikata", and then the tempo becomes faster in the scene where the monkeys dance. The tuning is Honcho → Niagari → Honcho.
