A magazine editor during the Meiji and Taisho periods. His real name was Tetsutaro. He was born in Akita Prefecture on June 28, 1882. He entered the Department of English Literature at Tokyo Imperial University after graduating from Second High School. While still a student, he worked on publishing translations of foreign magazines and other materials in the "Overseas Recent Trends" column of Chuokoron. In September 1904 (Meiji 37), he transferred to the Faculty of Law at Tokyo Imperial University, but dropped out in October and became an employee of Chuokoron-Shinsha. As an editor of Chuokoron from then until his death from illness, he built the magazine into a leading general magazine. In September 1912 (Taisho 1), he became the editor-in-chief. First, Takita proposed publishing novels in the literature column, and he hired authors such as Izumi Kyoka, Tayama Katai, and Kunikida Doppo one after another. As a result, the literature column of Chuokoron came to be regarded as a great stage for novelists. In addition, through his editorials, he discovered new debaters, such as Yoshino Sakuzo of the Tokyo Imperial University Law School, and breathed fresh air into the intellectual world. In particular, he provided many writing opportunities for proponents of democracy, and Chuokoron became one of the centers of Taisho democracy. It is no exaggeration to say that Takita created the model for Japan's general-purpose magazines. He passed away on October 27, 1925.
