French tragic actress. Her real name was Claire Josèphe Leris de la Tude. She was a member of the Comédie-Française from 1743 to 1766. She premiered tragedies by Marmontel, Crébillon, and Voltaire, and in Voltaire's Les Orphans de China (1755), she attempted reforms such as using Chinese-style costumes. She was known for her intelligent acting, and even Voltaire expressed admiration for her dedication to researching her roles. Her Mémoires (1798) is a valuable resource for 18th-century theater.

フランスの悲劇女優。本名Claire Josèphe Leris de la Tude。1743‐66年コメディ･フランセーズ座員。マルモンテル，クレビヨン，ボルテールらの悲劇を初演，特にボルテール《シナの孤児》(1755)では中国風の衣装を用いるなどの改革を試みた。理知的演技で知られ，その役柄研究の一途さには，ボルテールも感嘆の言葉をおくった。《回想録》(1798)は18世紀演劇の資料として貴重。
