Oil agglomeration

This is one of the coal washing techniques for coal slurry, and is sometimes abbreviated as the OA method. When a small amount of oil and possibly a surfactant are added to a slurry of pulverized coal suspended in water and stirred, the oil is selectively adsorbed onto the surface of the coal particles, forming an oil film, which acts as a bridging agent to form coal granules (pellets). This method physically separates these from the remaining slurry, and is considered to be one of the underwater granulation techniques. Oil agglomeration techniques for coal have a long history, and the Trent process, Convertre process, and other processes are well known.

石炭スラリーに対する選炭技術の一つで，OA法と略称されることもある。微粉炭を水に懸濁させたスラリーに若干の油とさらに場合によっては界面活性剤を添加してかくはんすると，石炭粒子の表面に選択的に油が吸着して油膜が形成され，その油が架橋材となって石炭の造粒体(ペレット)が形成される。これを残余のスラリーから物理的に分離するという方法で，水中造粒技術の一つといえる。石炭に対するオイルアグロメレーション技術の歴史は古く，トレント法，コンバートル法などが知られている。
