A law enacted by the British Parliament in 1663 that prohibited the importation of Irish livestock and their products into England in order to protect British beef breeders. Initially, only young live beef cattle were banned, but in 1667 the importation of live cattle, pigs, sheep and beef, pork, and bacon was banned, and in 1681 the importation of mutton, butter, and cheese was also banned. The Irish economy was only adversely affected by this law for the first few years, and new markets were soon developed on the continent. It was repealed in 1759.
