(1) A term used in Noh. A type of chant. A piece of music with few melodies, mainly in the mid-range, consisting of 7-11 lines in a 7-5 rhythm. The opening and closing lines are usually repeated. The rhythm of the chant follows the rules of jibyou. It is placed at the end of a Noh piece as the conclusion, and contains the author's overall impressions and the shite's afterword. In some cases, the entire final part of a piece is called kiri, but in this broad sense kiri includes various chant such as uta, naka nori ji, and nori ji.
