Imitation linen processing - Gimakako

Japanese:
Imitation linen processing - Gimakako

Cotton fabrics, spun rayon fabrics, etc. that have been treated to imitate hemp, or similarly treated linen-treated yarns. Fabrics and yarns that have been given an appearance and feel similar to linen products. Linen-imitation processing is achieved by processing paste-like substances such as gelatin, casein, konjac powder, and viscose, or synthetic resins to make them insoluble, in order to give them a hard feel similar to linen. Another method is to partially dissolve the surface of the fiber with a strong alkali and mercerize it. These processes make the material harder to the touch and less flexible, but they can give it a cool feel and luster like linen. It is used for summer women's and children's clothing and shirting, but is not very good at washing.
