Konrad Ekhof

German actor. Born in Hamburg. He made his debut in 1740 with the newly founded Schönemann troupe, where he spent 17 years training, studying under Koch and Ackermann, before moving to the Hamburg National Theater in 1967 and working with Lessing on many projects. He became an actor and director at the Weimar Court Theater in 1971 and at the Gotha Court Theater in 1974. He is Germany's greatest actor after Neuber, and pioneered a new acting style with his powerful, beautiful voice and well-balanced, realistic acting. He also dedicated himself to nurturing modern professional actors in Germany, such as founding an acting school in 1953, and is known as the "father of German acting."

ドイツの俳優。ハンブルクに生まれる。1740年新設のシェーネマン一座でデビュー、17年間同座で研鑽(けんさん)を積み、さらにコッホ、アッカーマンに師事、67年ハンブルク国民劇場に移り、レッシングと多くの共同作業を行った。71年ワイマール宮廷劇場、74年ゴータ宮廷劇場の俳優兼監督に就任。ノイバー以後のドイツ最大の俳優であり、力強い美声と節度ある写実的な演技によって新しい演技スタイルを開拓。また53年に俳優学校を創設するなど、ドイツにおける近代的な職業俳優の育成に尽くし「ドイツ俳優術の父」といわれる。
