Wooden [town] - Kizukuri
An old town in Nishitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture, occupying the northwestern part of the Tsugaru Plain. The Gono Line runs through it. It is located in the marshland downstream of the Iwaki River. It was founded by the Tsugaru Domain in the early Edo period, and Kamegaoka Castle was built there. The town mainly produces rice, but also cultivates melons and watermelons. The Kamegaoka ruins (historic site) are located here. In February 2005, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Morita Village, Kashiwa Village, Inagaki Village, and Kurumairi Village in Nishitsugaru District to form Tsugaru City. Area: 120.10 km2 . Population: 19,352 (2003).
