An old town in Nishitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture, occupying the northwestern part of the Tsugaru Plain. The Gono Line runs through it. It is located in the marshland downstream of the Iwaki River. It was founded by the Tsugaru Domain in the early Edo period, and Kamegaoka Castle was built there. The town mainly produces rice, but also cultivates melons and watermelons. The Kamegaoka ruins (historic site) are located here. In February 2005, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Morita Village, Kashiwa Village, Inagaki Village, and Kurumairi Village in Nishitsugaru District to form Tsugaru City. 青森県西津軽郡,津軽平野北西部を占める旧町。五能線が通じる。岩木川下流の低湿地帯にあり,江戸時代初期,津軽藩によって開かれ,亀ヶ岡城が築かれた。米を主産とするが,メロン,スイカの栽培も行う。亀ヶ岡遺跡(史跡)がある。2005年2月西津軽郡森田村,柏村,稲垣村,車力村と合併し市制,つがる市となる。120.10km2。1万9352人(2003)。
