In German Protestantism, theology from Schleiermacher to K. Barth is broadly called modernist theology, but here liberal theology is the more general term. However, liberalism in the narrow sense is seen in those who dissolve doctrine, such as DF Strauss and AE Biedermann (1819-85), and in the school of religious history that emerged at the end of the 19th century (mostly biblical scholars, but systematically represented by E.
