...Improvements in consumer life, a sense of equality in an age of austerity, and reforms to the education system by successive governments generally weakened the traditional class consciousness of the working masses, and at the same time their lifestyle and culture spread to the entire nation. The Victorian sense of order, including in language and dress, became more relaxed, and society gradually transformed into a permissive society. However, in the 1960s, the British economy, which continued to decline internationally, experienced a vicious cycle of rising prices and wages at home, leading to another devaluation of the pound in 1967.
