...This was because Tokyo had taken over the main material, the Kamigata dialect had become a dialect, hindering appreciation, and on top of that, manzai in the Kamigata dialect, which was easier to understand, was attacking them. At that time in Kamigata, two old masters, Katsura Shijaku I (1863-1928) and Katsura Shitaro I (1867-1927), Katsura Mikisuke II, who was well versed in both Eastern and Western Rakugo, and Katsura Harudanji, a comedic genius commonly known as the I, were active.

In the Tokyo rakugo world in the early Showa period, there were such figures as Yanagiya Kingoro, who made a name for himself with new works such as "Soldier Stories," Misuya Kokatsu 5 (1858-1939), known for his satire and aphorisms, San'yutei Ensho 5, known for his delicate art, Sanshotei Karaku 6, known for his dignity, Katsura Bunji 8, and Yanagiya Kosan 4, known for his easy-going style.
