Cupra - Kyupura (English spelling) cupra

A type of regenerated cellulose fiber. It is rayon made by the cuprammonium process, and is also called cuprammonium rayon. In Japan, it is sold under the name "Bemberg". Cottonseed short fibers (linters) or high-quality wood pulp are dissolved in a cuprammonium solution, which is used as the spinning solution and stretched about 400 times in running water while cooling and solidifying to produce single threads (cuprammonium process). Chemically, its structure is cellulose. In a cuprammonium solution made by adding ammonia water to a copper sulfate solution, copper hydroxide precipitates due to the action of the ammonia water, but if excess ammonia water is added, copper hydroxide tetraamine (quaternary amine) is produced, and cellulose dissolves only in this. It is economically important to recover copper and ammonia from the running water after spinning, and methods using ion exchange resins, etc. are being considered. The spinneret is made of nickel and has large holes with a diameter of 0.8 mm, which allows the production of thin single fibers of 0.5 denier (a method of expressing thread thickness; 1 denier is the thickness of a single thread that is 450 meters and weighs 0.05 grams) thanks to the effective use of running water drawing. In this first spinning stage, 90% of the ammonia and 40% of the copper are dissolved, but the core of the thread is not yet coagulated, so it is passed through a second coagulation bath containing about 5% sulfuric acid to completely coagulate it. The spun thread is twisted to make twisted yarn, which is then washed and dried to produce the finished product.

Cupra is a thin, elegantly lustrous thread that feels similar to silk and is primarily used to make high-quality, thin fabrics. It also has a nice texture for undergarments, so it is used for clothing linings, high-quality underwear, pajamas, etc.

再生セルロース繊維の一つ。銅アンモニア法によってつくられたレーヨンで、銅アンモニアレーヨンともいう。日本では「ベンベルグ」という商品名で市販されている。ワタの実の短繊維であるリンターまたは上質の木材パルプを銅アンモニア溶液に溶解し、これを紡糸液として口金より流水中で約400倍に延伸しながら冷固させて単糸とする（銅アンモニア法）。化学的にはその構造はセルロースである。硫酸銅水溶液にアンモニア水を加えた銅アンモニア溶液では、アンモニア水の働きで水酸化銅が沈殿してくるが、さらに過剰のアンモニア水を加えると水酸化銅テトラアミン（第四アミン）を生成し、セルロースはこれにのみ溶ける。紡糸したあとの流水中から銅とアンモニアを回収することが経済的にも重要であり、イオン交換樹脂などを用いる方法が検討されている。紡糸口金はニッケル製で直径0.8ミリメートルという大きな孔(あな)があけられているが、それで0.5デニール（糸の太さを表示する方法。450メートルで重量0.05グラムの単糸の太さを1デニールという）という細い単繊維がつくられるのは、流水延伸が効果的に用いられているためである。この第一段紡糸でアンモニアの90％、銅の40％が溶出するが、糸の芯(しん)のほうはまだ凝固していないので、第二凝固浴として5％ぐらいの硫酸溶液中を走らせて完全に凝固させる。紡糸された糸は撚(よ)りをかけて撚り糸とし、水洗乾燥して製品とする。

　キュプラは細くて優雅な光沢をもった糸なので、絹に似た感触をもち、主として高級薄物の織物がつくられている。肌着としての風合いがよいので、洋服裏地、高級下着、パジャマなどに用いられている。
