A rest period is a period during which a worker is guaranteed the right to rest freely during working hours. Employers must provide at least a 45-minute rest period during working hours when the working hours exceed six hours, and at least one hour when the working hours exceed eight hours (Labor Standards Act, Article 34, Paragraph 1). Therefore, if the regular working hours are eight hours, the employer must provide a 45-minute rest period, and if overtime is ordered beyond eight hours, an additional 15 minutes of rest period must be provided.
