Commemorative stamps - commemorative stamps

Japanese: 記念切手 - きねんきって
Commemorative stamps - commemorative stamps
A postage stamp issued to commemorate important national or national events and to publicize them both domestically and internationally. The world's first commemorative stamp was issued in 1887 in the UK to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne. In Japan, the first was issued on March 9, 1894, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Emperor Meiji's marriage. Other stamps similar in nature to commemorative stamps include stamps for events such as Philatelic Hobby Week and International Letter Exchange Week, New Year's stamps, national and quasi-national park stamps, and various series of stamps. These are also sometimes called commemorative stamps, but the correct name is special stamps.
