Kishizawa Shikisa (5th generation)

[Died] December 19, 1866 (Keio 2).
Tokiwazu shamisen player and head of the Kishizawa school. Son of the 4th Kishizawa Shikisa. Formerly named Nakasuke. Succeeded to his name in 1825. Succeeded to the 4th Koshikibu name in 53. In 60 he fell out with the 2nd Tokiwazu Bungo Daijo. He became independent as a Kishizawa school performer, and trained tayu to compete with the Tokiwazu head. In 64 he took the name Takeyusai. A master composer, he composed most of the famous Tokiwazu songs, including "Sanjinsui," "Noriaisen," "Masakado," "Sanseisou," "Yamauba," and "Kakubei."

常磐津節の三味線方，岸沢派の家元。4世岸沢式佐の子。前名仲助。文政8 (1825) 年襲名。嘉永6 (53) 年4世古式部襲名。万延1 (60) 年2世常磐津豊後大掾と不和。岸沢派として独立，太夫を養成して常磐津家元と対抗。元治1 (64) 年竹遊斎と号す。作曲の名手。『三人生酔』『乗合船』『将門』『三世相』『山姥』『角兵衛』など常磐津節名曲の大半を作曲した。
