Kojiki and Nihonshoki myths

According to Ishimoda Tadashi, these heroic myths are the product of the only period in the history of Japanese literature in which tools of labor could become the subject of aesthetic sensibility. As these kings of various regions were unified under the Yamato dynasty, the Kojiki and Nihon shoki myths were formed by layering these local myths around the genealogy, accomplishments, and ritual traditions of the imperial family. These myths have strong political elements that assert the origin of the imperial family's rule and the legitimacy of the monarchy, but they also unfolded a cohesive "world" under a unique mythological and ritual structure.
