A type of microchemical analysis method invented by Ken Iwasaki. The principle is that the test substance is reacted with an appropriate reagent to quantitatively generate nitrogen gas, and the amount of the substance is determined by measuring the volume. Therefore, even compounds that do not themselves contain nitrogen can be quantified if they can be led to a reaction that indirectly generates nitrogen gas. Nitrogen gas is measured at 10 to 100γ (0.00001 to 0.0001g), with the optimal range being 25 to 50γ. A specially made so-called azotometer is used to react with the test substance with an appropriate reagent and measure the nitrogen gas generated.

岩崎憲によって創案された微量化学分析法の一種。被験物質にそれぞれ適当な試薬を作用させて，定量的に窒素ガスを発生させ，その容積を測定することによりその物質の量を知るのが原理。したがって，それ自身は窒素を含まない化合物でも間接的に窒素ガスを発生するような反応に導きうるものは定量できる。窒素ガスは10～100γ(0.00001～0.0001g)，最適量域25～50γで測定される。被測定物質に適当な試薬を作用させ，これから発生する窒素ガスを測定するためには，特別に作られたいわゆるアゾトメーターを用いて行う。
