It is possible to extract relatively large amounts of clear water with little artificial pollution from the upper and middle reaches of rivers and lakes. The purification process of this water involves removing clay colloids that make the water muddy during rainfall, algae and plankton that grow in the water, and some naturally occurring pollutants, and either the slow sand filtration method or the rapid sand filtration method is widely used.
