...Other prose writers include Petronius, author of the novel Satyricon; Pliny the Elder, author of the encyclopedia Natural History; Pliny the Younger, an orator who left behind a collection of letters; Columella, who left behind a book on agriculture; Suetonius, a biographer who wrote the Lives of the Emperors and the Lives of the Notables in the 2nd century; Apuleius, the philosopher and author of the novel The Metamorphoses; and Gellius, author of the Attic Nights. In the field of poetry, in addition to the tragedies of Seneca, there are the epic poems Lucan's Pharsalia, Silius Italicus' Punica, Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica, Statius' Thebais and Achilleus, and the non-epic poems Manilius' Astronomical Didactic, Phaedrus' Fables, Calpurnius' Idylls, Martialis' Epigrammas, and the Satires of Persius and Juvenal. All of them were written in the first century except for Juvenal, who composed them in the early second century.
