The largest temple ruins of ancient Egypt, located in the tourist city of Luxor on the east bank of the Nile in southeastern Egypt. Centered on the Great Temple of Amon, dedicated to Amon, it was founded during the Middle Kingdom around 2000 BC. Since then, it has undergone repeated expansion and has become extremely complex. Other remains include a large obelisk. In 1979, it was registered as a World Heritage Site (cultural heritage) under the name "Ancient Thebes and its Necropolis".
