Gard Bridge (English: Pont du Gard, French)

An ancient Roman aqueduct spanning the valley of the Gard River, midway between Avignon and Nimes in southern France. It is made of three layers of arches, and is 49 meters above the water. It is 275 meters long. It was built using megaliths weighing about six tons, and has remained almost completely intact even after 2000 years, demonstrating the amazing civil engineering technology of ancient Rome. There are many ancient aqueducts remaining in various places, but the Gard Bridge is the largest. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1985 (World Cultural Heritage).
