The origin of the Gangoji temple complex

Japanese: 元興寺伽藍縁起 - がんごうじがらんえんぎ

The correct title is "Gangoji Garan Engi and Ruki Zaizaicho" (The History of Gangoji Temple and Its Asset Register), a record of the origins of Gangoji Temple that was submitted to the Sokosho in 747 (Tenpyo 19). It dates the year of the introduction of Buddhism to 538, and emphasizes that the Soga clan made great efforts in promoting Buddhism from that time until the reign of Empress Suiko. Although it contains some parts that incorporate the origins of Kenkoji Temple (Toyoura Temple), the writing style is archaic and it is a valuable document for Japanese language research. The current version is included in the "Collection of Temple Origins" held by Daigoji Temple, and was edited and examined by the monk Jishun in 1165 (Eiman 1), with the section on the Zaizaicho abridged.

正しくは《元興寺伽藍縁起幷流記（るき）資財帳》といい，747年(天平19)に僧綱所へ提出した元興寺の縁起。仏教伝来の年を538年とし，それより推古朝に至るまで蘇我氏が仏教興隆に尽力したことを強調。建興寺(豊浦寺)の縁起を混淆する部分もあるが，古拙な文体で，国語研究にも貴重な文献。現行本は醍醐寺蔵の《諸寺縁起集》に収めるもので，1165年(永万1)僧慈俊が編集･考証し，〈資財帳〉の個所は略抄されている。
