...His book Shakespeare Is Our Contemporary (later renamed Shakespeare Is Our Contemporary) had a worldwide impact on the performance and interpretation of Shakespeare in the 1960s. His other works include The Feast of the Flesh of the Gods (1973), which interprets Greek tragedy through structuralism and cultural anthropology. In 1966, he was invited by Yale University to move to the United States, but due to changes in the political situation in his home country, he stayed and obtained American citizenship.
