[Agematsu Post Town]
The name Agematsu first appeared during the Sengoku period, when the Agematsu clan, a branch of the Kiso clan, feudal lords during the Sengoku period, established their residence here, and Agematsu-juku was established as a post town in the 1550s (Tenbun era). With the establishment of the post station system by the Edo Shogunate in 1601 (Keicho 6), Agematsu was designated as one of the 69 stations along the Nakasendo road.
