The indigenous people who lived on Tierra del Fuego were collectively called Fuegians, and consisted of three tribes: the Yaghan, the Alacaluf, and the Ona. All were hunter-gatherers, but the first two lived on the coast, relied mainly on seaweed, shellfish, fish, and marine animals for food, and used canoes made from bark, so they were also called Canoe Indians. They had no social organization beyond the family, and lived scattered along the coast, leading a highly mobile lifestyle. …
