Lacquerware produced mainly in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is also called Takamatsu lacquerware. It was founded by Tamakaji Zoukoku, and the following techniques that he attempted are mainly inherited: (1) carved lacquer such as tsuishu (red lacquer), tsuiguro (black lacquer), and safflower and green leaves; (2) Sanuki carving, in which colored lacquer is applied over wood carvings; (3) Kinma, in which lacquer is applied to a base of lacquer (→Rantai lacquerware), patterns are carved into the surface with a carving knife, and colored lacquer is filled into the recesses to create the pattern; (4) Sonsei, in which hair carving is done with a knife over the colored lacquer of (3); (5) Zoukoku-nuri, in which red lacquer is applied to the wood base and then makomo (rice grass) is used to add astringency. 香川県高松市を中心に産する漆器。高松漆器ともいう。開祖は玉楮象谷 (たまかじぞうこく) で,主として彼の試みた以下の技法が継承されている。すなわち,(1) 堆朱 (ついしゅ) ,堆黒,紅花緑葉などの彫漆,(2) 木彫の上に彩漆 (いろうるし) を塗る讃岐彫,(3) 網代の素地 (→籃胎漆器〈らんたいしっき〉) に漆を塗り,その面に彫刻刀で文様を彫り,凹部に彩漆を埋めて文様を表わすキンマ (蒟醤) ,(4) (3) の彩漆の上に刀で毛彫する存星,(5) 木地にべんがら (弁柄) 漆を塗って,マコモ (真菰) で渋みをつける象谷塗 (ぞうこくぬり) など。そのほかに後藤太平の創案になる後藤塗などがある。
