Prince Atsuakira

A member of the imperial family in the mid-Heian period. He was the first son of Emperor Sanjo and his mother was Empress Shoshi. Fujiwara no Michinaga forced Emperor Sanjo to abdicate, and in 1016 (Chowa 5), ​​he had Prince Atsunari, the son of Emperor Ichijo and his daughter, Empress Shoshi, ascend the throne and make him Emperor Go-Ichijo. Michinaga also wanted to appoint Prince Atsunari's younger brother, Prince Atsunari, as the Crown Prince, but Emperor Sanjo strongly preferred Prince Atsunari instead. However, Michinaga exerted various pressures on Prince Atsunari, and Prince Atsunari resigned from his position as Crown Prince the following year, and was given the title of Emperor in the same vein as the retired emperor, and was called Koichijoin.

平安中期の皇族。三条(さんじょう)天皇の第1皇子で母は皇后娍子(じょうし)。藤原道長は三条天皇に譲位を迫り、1016年（長和5）女(むすめ)である中宮彰子(ちゅうぐうしょうし)の生んだ一条天皇皇子敦成(あつなり)親王を即位させ、後一条天皇とした。道長は東宮にも敦成親王の弟敦良親王をたてようとしたが、三条天皇の強い意向で敦明親王がたてられた。しかしその後道長は種々の圧迫を加えたため、敦明親王は翌年東宮を辞し、太上(だいじょう)天皇に準じて院号宣下(せんげ)を受け、小一条院と称された。
